Angle Ranking (officially Angle Discrimination) shows four interior angles and asks you to rank them from smallest to largest. The angles are usually within a few degrees of each other.
PAT Grind has 1,200 angle ranking questions at three difficulty levels. Each one is checked by an independent solver and comes with a step-by-step explanation.
How the questions work
- Each question has four angles and four possible orderings, and exactly one ordering is correct.
- Arm length and the direction the angle points don't matter. Only the opening at the vertex counts.
Strategy
- Ignore the arm lengths. Long arms make an angle look bigger than it is.
- Find the two angles that look closest and settle that pair first. Most options differ only there.
- Mentally rotate angles so one arm is horizontal, then compare where the other arm points.
- Use the options: once you're sure of the smallest or largest angle, usually only one or two orderings remain.
Common traps
- Judging by the distance between arm tips instead of the opening at the vertex.
- Angles drawn at awkward rotations that look bigger or smaller than they are.
